2018 Calendar of Events

APRIL 7 – Bloomin’ in the Bayou Spring Wildflower Walk
Jean Lafitte Barataria Preserve Nat. Historical Park, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Learn some basic botany and find out what’s blooming in the wetlands on a volunteer-led walk. Free but space limited; call the visitor center at 504-689-3690 ext. 10 to sign up.

APRIL 13-15 – St. Anthony’s Blessing of the Fleet Festival
St. Anthony Church, 2653 Jean Lafitte Blvd. The festival will include food, a flea market and live music by local bands.

APRIL 14 – Swamp Science Fest
Jean Lafitte Barataria Preserve Nat. Historical Park, 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Celebrate Citizen Science Day and learn about scientific research at the Barataria Preserve and elsewhere through family-friendly fun. Try your hand at water quality testing, listen for and record frog calls, spot birds and record your sightings, and make a prothonotary warbler nest box. Guided bird walks and plant life cycle walks 11:00 a.m.-noon, 12:30-1:30 p.m., and 2:00-3:00 p.m. Environmental documentary showings and discussions with filmmaker Josh Fox 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 2:00-3:30 p.m.

APRIL 29 – Blessing of the Fleet
Begins at Noon, behind town hall

JULY 21 – Jean Lafitte Pirogue Races
Saturday, July 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The races start at 11:00. The festival includes local food and music.

AUG. 18 – Jean Lafitte Town Market
Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 920 Jean Lafitte Blvd., Jean Lafitte. at the Jules Nunez Seafood Pavilion on Bayou Barataria. The Town Market includes vendors selling fresh seafood, local food, music and arts and crafts.

SEPT. 15 – Jean Lafitte Town Market
